2.43 – Babies and a Bit More

Thomas’s PoV

Darlene moved in right after the wedding. She’d been over a lot anyways, but it was still a big deal. I was married! Then she sprung some news on me.

“Hey, honey, can we talk?” Darlene waved me over.

“What’s up?”

“Okay, brace yourself.”

Every bone in my body suddenly liquefied. What’s wrong?! What could be wrong?! Was it something I’d said? No, she’d gone to see the doctor recently…was she sick?! Was it cancer? Oh, god, what if it was cancer?!

“I’m pregnant.”

“What?”

2.43 - pic2

“That’s great!” Oh thank god, it’s NOT cancer!

2.43 - pic3

Then every other thought was pushed out of my head. I’m going to be a father. “Oh god! I need to go read pregnancy books!”

Chloe’s PoV

I knew that Thomas would have children at some point. That was something he’d always wanted, particularly with Darlene. I just hadn’t expected it to be so soon. Especially considering that they had only recently been married.

2.43 - pic5

I stared at the room. I’d been working on it for some time now. Darlene’s abdomen had increased in circumference by 24.75 inches. A somewhat excessive amount, but they were expecting twins.

Darlene moving in had not been an issue with any of us. Thomas had been such a support for the last several years, that all our siblings agreed that we would support him in any decision he made going forward. Darlene made him happy. And we all wanted his happiness.

Which was why, as soon as Thomas and Darlene had announced that they were expecting, Medea and I moved all my furniture down to the basement. Lucy and Donovan had drawn up a list of necessary items, then Shaye and I had taken that list down to the store.

2.43 - pic6

The result was a rather pleasing nursery.

I nodded to myself. A job well done. I had told Thomas that I was working on something incredibly unstable in my bedroom and not to go in or allow Darlene anywhere near the door. My words had the desired effect. But now, it was finished. My siblings and I were planning on showing Thomas and Darlene the room today.

But they were out at the moment. Darlene had a check up today, and Thomas had driven her. In fact, no one was really around. Shaye had taken Lucky out to the dog park.

2.43 - pic7

Medea had spent the last week with her young man, Humberto. They were making plans for the future, possibly moving in together soon. Any other moment she spent working out, striving for physical perfection, or training Darlene. Because, why not train a pregnant woman?

And Lucy had mentioned something about visiting the art museum. She’d met a young man recently and taken to him strongly. I knew Thomas was a bit worried about her. After Medea had entered a stable relationship, and Thomas’s wedding, Lucy had spent most of her time on dating websites or with her nose stuck in romance novels. He was worried she had simply latched on to the first available man to come along. I wasn’t particularly concerned. While quite a bit dreamier than the rest of us, Lucy was incredibly resilient. Our years abroad had demonstrated as much.

2.43 - pic10

Donovan spent his nights hunting ghosts and his days tutoring at the elementary school. His career seemed to be going rather well, as the Mayor had awarded him several service awards. And he enjoyed educating children. He sometimes spoke of switching his career to education.

2.43 - pic11

Alone in the house at last. But it wasn’t to continue. My phone buzzed. And the caller ID brought some pigmentation to my cheeks.

2.43 - pic12

“Hello Mortimer!” I couldn’t help smiling. He could always do that. Make me smile, that is, over the most trivial of topics.

After Thomas’s wedding, Mortimer surprised me by showing up at the house one evening.

2.43 - pic13

He began by stating that Thomas had promised to see a performance across town. I had told him that Thomas had recently taken Darlene to the hospital for a checkup since she was pregnant. He had sighed, scuffed his shoe along the pavement, then requested that I attend in Thomas’s stead. I found myself agreeing.

2.43 - pic14

And enjoying myself more than I thought I would. I felt a bit awkward upon learning that it was a Renaissance fair, as I wasn’t outfitted accordingly, but Mortimer made me feel right at home. Besides, seeing him bedecked in leather armor was a rather distracting sight in itself.

2.43 - pic15

We even danced a bit! I’d never danced before.

2.43 - pic16

It became a regular occurrence. Whenever a Sim Fest was being hosted, Mortimer would show up at the house and we would go out and watch.

2.43 - pic17

I found myself neglecting my research, simply to spend the day with him. I wasn’t exactly sure why, but I couldn’t bring myself to look closer at the emotions involved. I was enjoying these moments and didn’t want to risk destroying them with excessive analyzation.

However, the solution did eventually present itself to me. Surprisingly, in the form of Lucy.

2.43 - pic18

“Oh, Chloe! You sound like you’re in love!” She sighed happily and closed her eyes.

“Love? Preposterous! We’re simply good friends.” I’d never really had friends. There was Malcolm, but we had mostly just studied together. And played World of Warcraft, of course. Mortimer felt like that. We played online games together and attended Sim Fests. Certainly nothing like Thomas and Darlene or Shaye and her many friends. Yes, Mortimer is my very good friend.

But now, as I watched Mortimer approach my park bench, I wondered if Lucy might be correct in her hypothesis.

Sorry for nothing last week, guys, but last Monday was an important day for me.  My boyfriend and I celebrate a kind of anniversary that day, celebrating the first day I ever played a video game and the end of our first year living together.  But we’re nerds, so we mostly celebrate the first part!  XD

So far, Chloe & Mortimer don’t share any traits, but she’s constantly rolling wishes for him: pillow fight, give gift, learn 3 traits and, more recently, kiss.  😉  We know he’s Grumpy and Artistic, which I find endearing.

Thanks for reading!  ^_^

  1. Very happy for Thomas and Darlene! They will make great parents. And Chloe and Mortimer are adorable, I support this pairing very much. 🙂

  2. Thomas is so sweet worrying about Darlene all the time! Why on SimEarth, though, he always thinks of the worst scenario?! Chill, Thomas, chill! Your just going to be a daddy, I’m sure you can handle that 🙂

Chloe and Mortimer already look like true soulmates to me. I wish they become more than just friends… It would be cool to see him end up with someone else for a change 😉

    Personal section of the comment:

I think celebrating the first day you’ve ever played a video game is so COOL! I’ve never thought of that. My BF would definitely love that! We’re not exactly nerds, but he’s definitely a gamer. As for me, I adore video games, we also play online, but I can’t call myself a gamer if I play TS3 – that’s what he says. Yeah, he really hates me playing it, but I don’t give a damn. The Loewes are ❤ to me. I will never give up on them!!! NEVER.

    1. Chloe’s veeeery interested in him. Me too! In all my games, he always hooks up with the Bachelor girl or remain single. It’ll interesting to see what his kids look like.

XD My boyfriend dislikes TS3 as well! It’s especially funny as he’s the one that got me the games! He enjoys that I enjoy it. 🙂 I personally don’t consider myself a hardcore gamer. There’s so much I haven’t experienced yet. That’s partially the reason we have the gaming anniversary, so we can both just sit down, try new games and re-experience old favorites. 🙂

      1. LOL 😀 At least it was him who brought you to the Sims. My boyfriend would never do that. He just gets me the ‘cool’ games. It’s not that I blame him, but if I like this game (I basically grew up playing this franchise) just let me play it 🙂

I don’t know if you heard about Life Is Strange. I’ve finished playing it this weekend and I must say that it’s the best game I’ve played in a long time. It’s amazing. You won’t be the same after you finish it… as the developers warn you at the start – choose wisely.

P.S. Look it up. Seriously crazy awesome stuff! And the soundtrack… oh, the soundtrack ❤

        1. Couldn’t get the game (college tuition man), but I watched a Lets Play of it with my BF. It was awesome! Amazing visuals, a really good soundtrack, and a story that just sucks you in and holds on tight! Just amazing! I did play Undertale though. 😉 I highly recommend it if you haven’t played it. It’s a beautiful story. And just like Life is Strange, your choices matter.

          1. That’s too bad. I hope you can eventually afford it or your boyfriend can get it for your birthday maybe. It’s really worth the money! I wish I could play it again without knowing what I know now…

Thanks for the tip! Undertale looks fun 😉

  3. Happy belated sort of anniversary! ^_^ I have to second that Life is Strange is amazing – even if I didn’t play it myself (because of the game motion sickness I get) but I always wanted to be around when my boyfriend played through it, it was like following a tv series. It was so pretty and full of twists and turns. He played Firewatch after that, which is similar in terms of narrative and visual style, it’s not quite as awesome as Life is strange but still very cool.

Anyway, back to Sims! LOL at Thomas for throwing a wish to read a pregnancy book the second after he finds out. Lucy kind of looks like a manga character sometimes, with those huge eyes and small frame. Aaaaaw Chloe and Mortimer at the renaissance fair! Seems kind of typical for him somehow, doesn’t it? It’s so sweet that she throws so many wishes for him.

    1. Thanks! ^_^

Life is Strange was a great thing to watch. Firewatch, which I also watched through a Lets Play with my BF, was very different for me. I kept expecting something so much worse to happen and it didn’t. Looking back on it, it was a very pleasant story line, it just looked a lot darker at the time. 😛

Darlene & Thomas are my favorite couple of all time. She’s a Diva, so sometimes she’ll boast about herself or something. Instead of getting bored or something, Thomas just smiles and nods his head, then compliments her. It’s adorable!

Chloe & Mortimer…I don’t really know what to do with them. Chloe’s rolling so many wishes, that he’ll definitely be her baby daddy. But I don’t see Chloe getting married. But they’re really cute together. I don’t know yet. We’ll see what happens later.

You know, I never actually noticed but you’re right! Lucy DOES look like a manga character! XD

  4. Twins? Oh wow! And that’s the moment Chloe eventually moves in to the basement, I got as far, can’t believe! 😀
Lovely anniversary you celebrate with your boyfriend, what a fun idea. I guess you’re a bit like Chloe after all?
That’d be cute if Chloe and Mortimer eventually ended up together.

  5. I can’t wait for the babies to arrive! ❤ Thomas was so cute for worrying about Darlene. But Thomas, relax dude!
Chloe finding love preposterous, lol!! So typical of her but she can't deny the truth forever! 😉
That anniversary you have with your boyfriend sounds so awesome!! 😀

    1. Thomas definitely takes after Bernard: he’s such a good father. Constantly rolling wishes for his kids or his wife. :3

Chloe would be the one to think that, wouldn’t she. But will she change her mind. Hmmm! 😀
